Yvette Brook Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy and Counselling in Sutton Coldfield and online

Welcome to Yvette Brook Psychotherapy

My name is Yvette. I am a qualified Psychotherapist who works one to one, with adults. I work from a therapy room in Mere Green (a 5 minute walk from Four Oaks train station).

I offer a confidential, honest and respectful relationship in which I hold no preconceptions or expectations of you. Through talking and exploring together, I can support you to find new ways of thinking, feeling and understanding yourself.

About me

Before training to be a Psychotherapist, I worked as a Midwife for the NHS, and I raised my 3 sons. I have worked in various support roles including with victims of domestic abuse, vulnerable parents, autistic people, and parents of autistic children. My life and work experience has equipped me with the skills to build trusting and supportive relationships with clients, with the knowledge that everyone’s experience is unique and personal to them.

My psychotherapy qualifications are an MSc, and an Advanced Diploma. I am a registered member of the United Kingdon Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). Being a registered member of these organisations is an assurance to you that my practice is safe, ethical and professional.

I have had years of personal therapy myself to ensure I am aware of what the experience is like for clients, and to ensure the issues I have had do not get in the way of supporting you. I currently have regular supervision with a leading expert in my field.

What is psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is collaborative dialogue with a trained professional in which you can explore difficulties in your life, and process your thoughts and feelings in a supportive and boundaried space. A trusting relationship with your therapist is essential, so you are able to explore potentially painful issues, consider how you relate to others, and whether there are patterns being repeated in your life.

What can psychotherapy help with?

People come to me for help with a wide range of issues. Here are a few of the more common difficulties that can be addressed through therapy:

Abuse

Anger management

Anxiety/Stress

Bereavement

Cultural issues

Depression

Feeling alone

Identity issues

Loss

Post-traumatic stress

Relationships

Self esteem

Trauma

Work related issues

My approach to psychotherapy:

I am a trained Integrative Psychotherapist, which means that I am able to draw on a number of therapeutic approaches depending on your needs. The therapeutic approach I use the most is gestalt, which considers your mind, body and situation together. I aim to increase your awareness around how you experience life, how you are supported and how you support yourself. This process brings clarity to your past and to your future.

Gestalt therapy is a relational therapy which involves exploring the therapeutic relationship (the relationship between you and me) in depth. This helps to bring new insight into how you may experience other people. I also draw on psychodynamic theory which involves exploring your childhood, and how your childhood influences how you feel and how you live your life.

My experience:

I frequently treat people with depression and anxiety. I have also had experience and success working with people who are struggling because of their relationships, health anxiety, anger, and other dominant emotions. I have a particular interest in working with people who have been oppressed because of difference and diversity including people who recognise themselves as being autistic or having ADHD. Neurodiversity is an area in which I have personal and professional experience. I class myself as neurodivergent. My own experience prompted me to carry out post-graduate research on psychotherapy and autism, which has since been published (available here to view).

My Practice

I have a therapy room in Mere Green, Sutton Coldfield. This location has free parking and good public transport links. It is a 5 minute walk from Four Oaks train station.

I work with clients weekly (the same day/time every week) usually over a period of months or years. I work on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays between the hours of 9am and 3pm.

Fees:

I charge £50 a session, which is for 50 minutes.

Getting in touch

I recognise that starting psychotherapy can be a daunting experience, and it can take a few weeks to settle in. If you want to explore having psychotherapy with me, please get in touch with me by email (yvette.brook@btinternet.com) or you can fill in the enquiry form provided.

When you get in touch, please provide a brief summary of why you are seeking psychotherapy, and what days and times you are able to attend (please note my working hours are Monday, Thursday and Friday between 9am and 3pm). I aim to respond to enquiries within 24 hours on weekdays.

If I can accommodate the day and time you want to attend therapy, we can arrange a mutual assessment session by Zoom video-link, or by telephone. The assessment session takes 50 minutes and the fee is £50.

During the assessment session, I will ask you about your mental health history, your background and current situation, and you can see how you feel with me and get a flavour of my style of working. We can then decide if we want to start working together on a weekly basis. If I am not the therapist for you, I am happy to recommend other therapists and alternative approaches that may help you.
